Who We Are

This corner of the internet is known as Diarium Absurdi.
Our website address is:
https://fictionshed.com

We are caretakers of words, not collectors of secrets.

Comments

When you leave a comment, we collect the information shown in the comments form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us keep out the mechanical gremlins and digital mischief-makers (also known as spam).

An anonymised string (a “hash”) created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to see whether you use it. Their privacy policy can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

If your comment is approved, your profile picture (if linked via Gravatar) becomes visible to the public beside your words — like a small portrait hung next to your contribution in the gallery of conversation.

Media

If you upload images to the site, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images from the website and may be able to extract location data from them.

In short: do not accidentally reveal the exact coordinates of your garden shed.

Cookies

Yes, we use cookies. The digital kind.

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is purely for convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter your details next time. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie will check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and disappears when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login details and screen preferences.

  • Login cookies last two days.
  • Screen options cookies last one year.
  • If you select “Remember Me”, your login lasts two weeks.
  • If you log out, login cookies are removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved. It contains no personal data and simply identifies the post you edited. It expires after one day.

These cookies are practical, not philosophical.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles may include embedded content (such as videos, images, or articles). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.

Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with their content — especially if you have an account with them and are logged in.

We do not control their practices, only the words placed here.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

We do not sell, trade, or theatrically exchange your data for anything resembling treasure.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in moderation.

If users register on the website (if registration is enabled), we store the personal information they provide in their profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except usernames, which are stubborn things). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you may request:

  • An exported file of the personal data we hold about you.
  • That we erase any personal data we hold about you.

This does not include data we are obliged to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You are not trapped in the diary.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Sometimes, even in absurd worlds, the machines help tidy up.
